HAPPENINGS IN THE GEDDINGTON AND NEWTON WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
READING GROUP
The Geddington and Newton W. I. Reading Group meets at 10:30 am on the second Monday of each month to discuss that month's chosen book. The location is rotated among the members and is great fun. We have read some wonderful books. Everybody's idea of a good book is different but this group is sure to push you out of your reading comfort zone. We all enjoy the discussion and ensuing conversation as well as the treats! The upcoming book schedule for 2013 is: 13 May - Engleby by Sebastion Faulks 10 June - Boy in the Striped Pajamas by Boyne 8 July - A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon 12 August - Shiny Pennies and Grubby Pinafores by Winifred Foley 9 September - The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters 14 October - TBC 11 November - The Poet's Wife by Judith Allnatt Please talk to Jeanette or Margaret Tuffin if you are interested in coming along. There is always more room! |
KNIT AND KNATTER
The Knit and Knatter group meets every other Monday evening at 7:30 pm in The Star pub. Ladies can bring along any portable creative item they are working on and do some handicraft among friends. It is always inspirational to see what other members are up to. We have some wonderfully creative women in the W. I.! Last year we sent some of our knitted items to Romania with Nicky Walsh. It is a terrific cause and time passes quickly knitting and having a cup of tea among friends. Please talk to Jacqueline Drotar for more information. SKITTLES The Geddington and Newton W. I. ladies have had a fabulous first year (of many we hope) playing other local W.I.s in Skittles. On Wednesday, 24 April, our team beat Walgrave W.I. and made it into the quarter finals. Unfortunately they were bested (but only by 4 points) by Little Billing on 29 April. All in all it has been a fun time for everyone. The group hope to continue practicing and having fun when The Star reopens and they look forward to starting up competition next autumn. Congratulations Jeanette, Mari, Margaret T., and Dawn!! If anyone is interested in playing, please contact one of the group members. W.I. COUNTY QUIZ We wish we could report a great victory at the annual W.I. County Quiz night at Wicksteed Park held 23 April. Although three teams of 4 smart Geddington women tried very hard, we did not a win any placings. To be fair, the quizzes were quite extra hard this year. Does anyone know what tiera misu means? See one of us and we'll tell you! |
